Santa Montefiore is an author that needs to be on everyone's reading lists. She mainly writes historical fiction, that always seems to have a flair of mystery, romance and suspense in it. And this one was no different.

An Italian Girl in Brooklyn is a book I will not shut up about when recommending books to others. It is so cleverly written, and captivates you from the start.

The story switches back and forth from Italy 1934 to New York 1979.

Evelina grows up in a sheltered life, and dreams of finding true love. Only then, will she marry.

She falls in love, only with someone that promises a story of trials and tribulations. Because growing up in a country affected by war threatens the future of Evelina and her chances of being with the one she truly loves.

It's heartbreaking captivating, suspenseful, bittersweet and the twist at the end ... definitely did not see that coming!
