We love Jason Thorn

Back with another book review - yes it has been a few months since my last blog post - being a bookseller (and a research assistant) has pretty much taken over my life (in the best possible way!).

But, you know I had to make time to review the latest book I read - 'To Love Jason Thorn' by Ella Mais.

To summarise the plot briefly, growing up, main character Olive had an intense crush on her older brother's childhood best friend - Jason Thorn. Jason ends up moving away, and Olive scared Jason only sees her as her best friend's annoyingly clingy little sister, gives up on any hope of the two of them being together, and their lives go on...

That is until, flash forward, now successful writer Olive's latest book gets turned into a movie, where the star to play the leading male role is none other than Jason Thorn, who has become a dashing, Hollywood heartthrob, particularly infamous for his antics that often involving very extreme public displays of affection with random women.

This turn of fate reunites the two back together, and basically makes every reader swoon over their undeniable chemistry and spark.

I loved this book. Ella Mais has quickly become a popular name in the rom-com world of books, and rightfully so. I think she excelled and creating a convincing narrative that was intense, steamy, complex, but also wholesome. It had a very slow-burn, which made the two characters coming together towards the end worth the wait, and even more satisfying.

I also liked the fact that Jason Thorn was not a 'perfect' character. He had a past of trouble, lost his way a few times. But the coupling of him with Olive, who very much has a 'girl next door' vibe, was just perfect. Sometimes cliches work, and it certainly did work for this story. And the way Ella Mais showed how much Jason cared for Olive, through words, is a reflection of her skill as a writer.

The only thing I am trying to wrap my head around is the book's title. 'To love Jason Thorn'. Am I missing something - is this a reference to something in the story I missed... Not entirely sure. I am also not too crazy about the cover art of the book, however all of Ella's book covers seem to follow a theme so I guess she is adamant to follow that through and keep it consistent.

All in all, a great story and a great read. Easy to follow along, and very enjoyable!
